As an avid reader, I like nothing more than a good plot twist, something that comes out of nowhere and makes you see the characters and storyline from a completely different perspective. Every time I read the Christmas story, I am amazed at all the plot twists. God used people and places that no one expected and very few saw coming. Reading this story reveals so much about God’s character.
I was reminded of this unique character quality of God when reading a recent article from The Voice of Martyrs website (Losing for God’s Glory), which tells of how God used the water buffalo trade in Vietnam to allow Christians access to an otherwise closed village in Vietnam. This business opportunity quickly became a missions opportunity. What a great reminder of how God often works in ways we never see coming. He combines our interests, skills, personalities, weaknesses, and vocations to pursue his purposes when we are willing.
The stories of Scripture and the stories of the present remind us that God is always working, always moving, always calling us to follow him. May we have eyes to see and hearts to respond. This season, ask God what adventures he has laid out for your life. You may find yourself in a delightful plot twist.
