My favorite Easter word is “dynamite”. No, dynamite was not used to open the tomb, but that name comes from the Greek word for “power” —dunamis. This word describes the ability or power to achieve something. Today we remember and celebrate Jesus’ power to shatter death!
Paul used this Greek word as he described the Resurrection, and the possibilities that created for us!
“I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of his power (dunamis) for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
—Ephesians 1:19-20 (NLT)
In Pastor Spencer’s Easter message last year, he stressed the newness of life offered to us because of Jesus’ resurrection. He shared this exciting thought from philosopher Christopher Watkin.
“…the resurrection is not a resuscitation. Jesus did not come back to life; he went forward to new life. His resurrection is not a return to the same existence that he had before he was crucified… The resurrection introduces something radically new into the fabric of the universe…, transforming the Christian’s way of inhabiting reality. It is as significant as the creation of the universe, for it parallels that first creation with what the Bible calls the ‘new creation’.”

What Jesus accomplished early that morning 2000 years ago, shattered not only physical death, but death’s claim on us. I don’t understand this completely. This mystery is beyond my power to comprehend. But we can trust him. We can believe his words are true. And we can ask Him to help us understand what he wants us to know.

For 50 days, beginning on this Resurrection Day, you can choose to read, pray and write the Bible verses offered in the list on this page. Writing by hand is most helpful. Find a tablet or journal where you can keep these daily treasures.
While writing, you will discover words never noticed before, and the verse will begin to open in your heart and mind. This is the power of the word of God.
Say “yes” to him every day.
He loves you. We can trust him to create this new life inside us. As we grasp his nail-pierced hand, may we exclaim with the prophet Jeremiah, “Nothing is too difficult for You!”
