Over 100 people competed in our first pickleball tournament, Serve Hope. Dozens of committed sponsors and volunteers recently worked together to host this tournament in the Schweitzer Church gym, in support of ministry in Africa (Kibo, Uganda). It was a huge success, with $1000 going to the Rainbow Network and $3000 to Kibo.
Kicking off with a Glow Party, the three-day event saw men and women of various skill levels and experience play competitive games all weekend long. The top three teams in each category of play received medals.
Pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in America, was first played at Schweitzer in 2017. The Schweitzer Pickleball community offers multiple play times in a week. Nearly a thousand people have played over the years here. Through pickleball, we live out our ethos of being a community focused church.
Pickleball at Schweitzer is unique in offering various levels of play, embracing multiple skill levels—from new players to intermediate players to highly competitive players. Everyone is welcome, and new communities are created.
