The Impact of Flourish: J.U.M.P.

Flourish CDC2025 December, Community Leave a Comment

Many in our community have faced profound hardship and endured cycles of dysfunction, yet they hold a strong desire for change. They long to leave behind a painful past and build a future grounded in hope and stability—but often lack the support, skills, and resources to make that transformation possible. This longing fuels the mission of Flourish CDC, whose programs walk alongside individuals and families as they pursue lasting renewal. Here are articles about four of these programs and the life-changing impact they’re making in our community: Coach House, Food Pantry, Flourish Girls, and J.U.M.P.

We are in a room with 12 men and women, each recently released from federal prison, each having served more than seven years. They wear ankle monitors and carry the weight of institutional survival. They avoid eye contact, keep their distance, and trust no one. They have endured a world where rules are rigid, individuality is erased, and conflict is met with violence. Why are we in the room with these individuals? To help them achieve the life transformation they desperately seek.

During their incarceration, they are required to participate in various programs. Most find these of limited value. Their expectation is that this program will be similar—it is not!

JUMP (Job Upward Mobility Program) equips individuals emerging from incarceration with the tools to confidently reenter the workforce by providing the answers to the test—literally. Over a focused five-day period, participants identify transferable skills, align past experiences with job requirements, and learn workplace expectations. We know the questions employers will ask, and we guide participants in crafting responses that are succinct, relevant, honest, and genuine. From mastering a confident handshake and maintaining appropriate eye contact to writing a thoughtful thank-you note, every detail is discussed, demonstrated, and practiced, ensuring they walk into interviews prepared, polished, and empowered.

On the final day, participants face the real test: a live interview with three experienced human resource professionals. Each individual is asked common interview questions in a formal setting, allowing them to apply everything they’ve learned. They receive immediate, constructive feedback on their responses, body language, and overall presence. The entire class observes each interview, creating a powerful shared learning experience in which participants gain insight not only from their own performance but also from one another’s.

The stakes are high—without meaningful employment, most of these men will return to prison. JUMP provides the skills, confidence, and preparation they need to secure a job and begin the new life they envision.
