Many of us will find ourselves in the role of caregiver to another at some point in our lives. We may need to care for family members or close friends, or we may be a professional caregiver. We may volunteer for the caregiver role, or we may have little or no choice in taking it on. We may be caregiving during a short-term crisis, or our role may be long-term. Whether caring for our aging parents, a partner who is facing a challenging diagnosis, children, or other loved ones with chronic illnesses, caregiving is a beautifully rewarding, but often overwhelming, act of love. Caregivers commonly report feeling untrained, unprepared, unsupported, and isolated How do you, as a caregiver, balance the desire to take care of your loved one with the very real need to take care of yourself?

In this class, we will explore the challenges of caregiving and the toll it takes mentally, emotionally, physically, relationally, and spiritually.  We will discuss compassion fatigue, explore ways to engage in self-care, and offer a space to share and support one another through this challenging journey. Led by a team including caregivers, healthcare workers, and pastors, the class will offer opportunities to practice skills, review resources, and ask the tough questions that you may be struggling to find answers to.

If you are a long-term caregiver and could benefit from support and encouragement, this group is for you. This group will meet on January 18 and 25 in room 102. Lunch is provided at noon, followed by the class.

We look forward to seeing you there!
