Did you know that we celebrate the Resurrection in December? We do, because every Sunday of the year is a celebration of Jesus’ victory over death on the “first day of the week.” Even as we walk the dark road of Lent, the six Sundays during that time are reserved for joyful worship. Sundays remind us of what is most important. They orient our focus and fix it on Jesus, “the Living One” (Revelation 1:18).
The New Testament repeatedly affirms that Jesus is now seated at the Father’s right hand, but it also describes His current activity. He is not just sitting as the ages roll by. It is helpful to remember this. We invite you to ponder and celebrate the activity of the living Christ on the six Sundays during Lent.
He holds all creation together. (Colossians 1:17)
He saves completely those who come to God through Him. (Hebrews 7:25)
He appears before God as our advocate. (Hebrews 9:24)
He nourishes those who abide in Him. (Colossians 2:7 and 19)
He helps us when we are being tempted. (Hebrews 2:18)
He is making us holy. (Hebrews 2:11 and 10:14)
Jesus is alive and working! The living Christ is present and faithful! He rules the world with truth and grace! Rejoice and celebrate His Resurrection all year long! Join heaven and nature singing, “Joy to the World!” The Lord is risen!
