CELEBRATING BETTER BUDGETS, INCREDIBLE MENTORS

On April 25, 2024, Flourish celebrated with seven participants and seven mentors as they completed the Budget Basics program. Students attended a Thursday night class held at The Well Church for eight weeks, participated in group discussion, and completed their weekly homework of tracking their expenses. All with the goal of learning the best practices of budgeting and discovering more about their personal spending habits.

There are several components to a successful class or program. One is that students engage in class discussions and create community. It can be quite intimidating to talk about personal finances, but often, what we learn from each other is just as valuable as what we learn from a workbook. Another key to success is to have engaged and committed mentors. Flourish is blessed to have wonderful volunteers who enjoy connecting with program participants. We could not provide these classes without volunteer support.

Our Budget Basics program celebrated the final week of class with a prayer written by each mentor to their student. Each prayer was for financial peace and encouraged each student to continue their journey of budgeting and setting financial goals for the coming weeks, months, and years. What was truly amazing to see, was the bond and connection between each student and their mentor. Many students shared that their mentor was exactly who they needed in their life!

Our next Flourish program, Jobs for Life, begins on June 4. We hope that each student will strengthen not only their job skills but also will learn more about relationships and be encouraged as they embark on their next adventure.
