Sharing God’s Love with Pregnant Single Moms

An unexpected pregnancy can be scary – especially if you are navigating this as a single mom. It’s normal to feel lost and alone and even a little afraid. Thanks to a new ministry at Schweitzer Church, there is support for single moms-to-be.

In the fall of 2023, 12 new and soon-to-be moms were part of our first Embrace Grace group. “What a joy it was to walk with single moms, as they experienced the love of God in a real way. Through a message of love we helped women see that they can have their babies and their dreams too!” said Carolyn Larsen, volunteer leader for Embrace Grace.

The semester concluded with a day of celebration honoring each mother with a spa day, baby shower and more. Each “graduate” received a study Bible with her name embossed. One mom stated it was the nicest gift she had ever received. Another girl shared, “After attending Embrace Grace my boyfriend and I started listening to the Bible together. We continue to learn more about God every day.”

With much anticipation, we are excited to offer another 12-week session of Embrace Grace, beginning Wednesday evening January 17th. If you or anyone you know would like to be part of this session, please complete the application at schweitzer.church/embracegrace.

There are also many volunteer opportunities available for anyone interested in encouraging single, pregnant young women in our community. Consider providing food for the weekly meetings, becoming a prayer pal with a mom, or helping with the baby shower or serving at a spa day, etc.

Embrace Life: “The Sequel Class”

In a “sequel” to Embrace Grace, we are thrilled to launch a new group for single mothers of young children called Embrace Life. This new opportunity begins Sunday, January 14, in room 208. The 20-week support and study group will be divided into two semesters with videos and discussion each Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:15. This is open to women who are divorced, divorcing, widowed, or never married.

This class led by Marilyn Quigley, Patty Swan, Kay Meppelink, and Sherrie Hardecke will focus on issues of special interest to mothers raising children without a husband in the home. Topics such as communication, consistency, budgeting, and boundaries all rest on the biblical foundation of God’s amazing love, willingness to answer prayer, and forgiveness through Christ. Everyone participating will receive workbooks, attendance incentives, plus breakfast.

If you’d like to be part of this new group, sign up online at schweitzer.church/groups or stop by the Blue Booth on Sunday. Have more questions? Give us a call at 417-380-8387.
