Schweitzer Foundation Receives Another Significant Gift

Recently, Schweitzer Church received an email from an online worshiper asking about providing a legacy gift. Schweitzer Foundation Director, Jim Mason, and Schweitzer Church’s Chief Operating Officer, Colette Freeman, concluded that the donor was unknown to us at that time. Bob Burch, however was known to God.

Bob had never visited the Schweitzer Church campus. Following a health issue limiting mobility, Bob had been worshiping online for months after having wandered from the faith over the years. Bob is retired from a 40-year, successful IT career.

Inspired by Pastor Spencer’s sermons and the compelling music, Bob grew to love worshiping online with Schweitzer. The Holy Spirit, via the technology of online worship, had awakened Bob to the love of God, church, and neighbor.

Bob had tried other online worship experiences, yet the excellence of his experience with Schweitzer was different. Bob’s generosity includes tithing and a compelling desire to provide a generous legacy gift.

After prayer and discernment, Bob decided to provide 30% of his estate to Schweitzer. He met with advisors, revised his trust documents, and gave copies to Schweitzer for safekeeping.

It is noteworthy that Schweitzer’s online worship service transitioned to a fully livestreamed experience in September 2024. With a Foundation gift of about $65,000 to buy the necessary equipment, people like Bob enjoy an excellent worship experience, connecting with God and the in-person Schweitzer community.

Who knew Bob Burch would be watching? God knew. And God knows many like Bob whose lives are changed by God’s grace!
