Sunday, December 18, at 9 and 10:30 am, the Schweitzer Choir, along with several guest instrumentalists, will share the story of Christmas through song and narration (aka, a cantata).
Cheryll Moll, Director of the Schweitzer Choir (and Traditional Worship) who began preparing and selecting music in June shared that it never feels too early to think about Christmas.
“I love Christmas music, for me it brings true meaning to the season,” Cheryll said, adding that each year she looks for a way to share the Christmas story in a fresh way. This year is no different.
Marilyn and her husband, Ed, joined Schweitzer as members in October. Marilyn has written several books and Ed has been an artist for more than 40 years. We are thrilled to have this creative couple as part of our church and excited to see what might be next!
The 2022 theme, Love Descending, flips the script in a unique way thanks to the creative work of writer Marilyn Quigley who developed narration and script.
“Often when telling the Christmas story we join the shepherd’s perspective and look up at the angels or around at the people. I thought it would be interesting to reverse the viewpoint by joining the angels in looking down. To experience what it looked like for love to come down in the form of a baby,” Marilyn shared.
“From beyond the vastness of space, down through the galaxies and constellations to not just earth, but to a specific place in a specific time… to the manager scene.”
This unique perspective will perfectly enhance the musical harmonies audiences will enjoy the Sunday before Christmas and the final week of Advent. This is a perfect day to invite someone to hear the message of God’s love through song.
