New Staff Spotlight: Shelley Rogers

Shelley Rogers joined the Schweitzer staff in January as our Missions Coordinator. She will serve in a part-time role to help raise awareness and discussion about Global Missions.

Getting to know Shelley
“God is intentional about his love for us; he reaches out and finds us no matter where we are. When I think of the beauty found in that love, it inspires me to reach out to others wherever they may be.”

The Rogers Family
My husband Tim and I have been married for almost 25 years. Tim teaches business at OTC. He is currently helping with Guys’ Gatherins at Schweitzer. We have two daughters: Sydney, a freshman, and Elyse, who is a senior. They are both involved in the bell choir, help in the nursery, and Elyse sings with the choir.

Tell Us About Your Life & Career
I came to Springfield from North Dakota to attend Evangel and met Tim shortly after I graduated. I have a master’s degree in social work and have worked in nursing homes, with troubled youth, and have been teaching sociology courses at OTC for 11 years.

How Has Global Missions Influenced Your Life?
When I was around eight years old, a missionary from Papua New Guinea visited our church. I vividly remember the pictures and the stories of that night. I grew up in church and had heard of the Great Commission, but throughout that night I came to have a deeper understanding of what that might mean in real life. It made me hungry to learn more and to see how God might be able to use me. I started reading missionary books and looking for ways to reach out to others.

How Do You See Our Church Engaged in Missions?
This is the exciting part! Schweitzer does amazing community work; that is a big part of our identity as a church. Global Missions is a next step, where we go across the street and around the world.

We will look for ways to share Christ with people daily. We hope to partner with global organizations who are doing ministry with people in their communities, who are sharing the gospel in a loving, truthful, and compelling ways, both near and far.

Favorite Hobbies

I am an avid reader of all genres and enjoy anything vintage. Our family loves to travel, and often we travel in our Airstream camper. We have visited 48 contiguous states, various countries, and spent summers teaching in Shanghai, China.

Favorite Coffee Drink
Dark chocolate mocha is definitely one of my favorites. You will likely find me with some type of coffee in my hand at all hours before 5 pm!
