Back in April, we began a journey—a long journey—with Jesus through the Gospel of John. Over the course of a year, we’re reading every verse, every line, every word of this Gospel. Throughout July and August, our Sunday mornings will focus on John chapters 5 through 7.
These chapters offer rich and revealing portraits of who Jesus is. We’ll see him heal a man who had been an invalid for 38 years with the chilling question, “Do you want to get well?” (John 5:6).
We’ll see Jesus feed thousands, not just giving them physical food but also making the claim that he is what we all hunger for—the bread of life (John 6:35).
This stretch will also bring us to the moment Jesus stands up and boldly proclaims, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them” (John 7:37-38).
This stretch of John draws us deeper into both the identity of Jesus and the growing tension between him and the world. In these pages, we see more clearly what it means to believe in Jesus—and what it may cost us.
In July, we will also release Volume 2 of our Bible reading guide, available beginning Sunday, July 6. This next volume continues where Volume 1 left off and will guide us through the book of Exodus, ongoing prayer practices, and the Psalms. These guides are designed to anchor us in the daily rhythm of reading Scripture for ourselves. As we journey through Exodus, we’ll notice how deeply John draws from its imagery and themes.
Volume 2 is also a great on-ramp if you’ve fallen behind or are just joining us. The Gospel of John is a well you can return to again and again. My prayer for this summer is simple: that in reading and hearing the words of Jesus, we wouldn’t merely learn about him—we would truly encounter him. And in encountering him, find life.
