Schweitzer Church has had a long-standing tradition of excellence in music. The groups of musicians have varied, but we have always been a haven for ministry leadership in worship. Over the years, the chancel choir, the youth choir and its tours, the children’s choir, and our many other programs have played a big part in the lives of many involved in music ministry, even today.
One thing that has been to the delight of several music directors is that Schweitzer Church has always been open to various styles of music in worship. This is not the case in many churches, especially these days. The Schweitzer congregation understands that the wrapping on the package may look different, but what’s inside is still the same Jesus. I love that about Schweitzer!
While we have a love for the “old hymns,” we enjoy learning new ones, too. I’m often reminded of the phrase, “You didn’t know Amazing Grace the first time you heard it.” That is so true, and just think of the blessings we’d be missing out on if we didn’t dig into the rich text of some of the newer hymns we’ve been learning. The future is bright with a music ministry focus squarely on Jesus and worship.
My prayer is that Schweitzer Church’s worship will continue to hold on to the heritage of the gospel through music, old and new, and offer that message of hope in Christ to all!
